what is coaching?

Coaching is a process that involves a series of conversations between a coach and their client. These conversations – which are confidential – are focused on the client’s agenda, usually related to making progress with something. For example, the client might want to solve a problem, achieve a goal, or make a change in some area of their life. The coach will use various skills, including questioning, listening, observation, and feedback skills, to help the client get where they want to go.

Does coaching work?

There is an increasing amount of evidence supporting coaching and how well it works in a number of different situations. “Professional coaching brings many wonderful benefits: fresh perspectives on personal challenges, enhanced decision-making skills, greater interpersonal effectiveness, and increased confidence… Those who undertake coaching also can expect appreciable improvement in productivity, satisfaction with life and work, and the attainment of relevant goals.” (2016 ICF Global Coaching Study). So saying, results cannot be guaranteed. There are several factors that can impact on whether or not coaching is successful, including how committed the client is to the process. In other words, you get out what you put in!

what is the difference between coaching and therapy?

Coaching is not advice, therapy or counselling. Some issues are best handled by someone trained to support a specific issue with a specific set of skills, principles and approach. For example, addiction or mental ill-health (e.g., depression and anxiety) are best supported by someone trained in those specific situations. Face-to-face coaching sessions are available in a number of locations in the Dublin area. Virtual coaching sessions take place via Skype or Zoom, an easy-to-use, reliable online meeting tool.

Do I need to bring anything?

Nope. Some clients like to bring their own pen and notebook but it’s not necessary – I come fully-equipped!

Do you do coaching other than your Mid-Career Strategy Session and Mid-Career Satisfaction Package?

It depends. I have a lot of experience and interest in helping people with every aspect of carrying out a project, from design to execution. I also love anything to do with planning and how to work in the most effective, efficient way possible while maintaining work/life harmony.
